Faith and Politics

Faith and Politics Resources

It can be daunting to try to navigate the world of politics where the prevailing tones can be of tribalism, conflict and bitterness.  In this series, we will dig a bit deeper to look at what role our faith in Jesus has in the day-to-day politics of life and not just for the general election season.

Pray for our local political leaders

“The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live”.

1 Timothy 2:1-7 | The Message

We are instructed to pray for our community leaders who work hard for the smooth running of society.  As well as that, we could let them know we appreciate their effort and ask how we can support them in their work.

National Level Christian Involvement in Politics
Christians in Politics “strive to put kingdom before tribe and disagree well. Christians in Politics draws together Christians from across the political parties and beyond, and from across the breadth of the church”.

Local Level political engagement
Citizens UK were founded on the principle that everyday people have power. And that by bringing people together across their differences, we can find common ground and make change.  Citizens Brighton and Hove have drawn together an alliance from universities, charities, schools and colleges, churches, and synagogues.
Christian Action Brighton is a network of those social initiatives in the city with a clear Christian distinctiveness. The organisations have a common desire to see our city transformed for good, releasing its full potential and building Brighton as a stronger and more caring place.
ROC (Redeeming Our Communities) empowers local people of goodwill to work together for safer, stronger communities

Party Political Christian Organisations

All the major parties have a Christian affiliate organisation that aims to ensure Christian voices are represented.
