Jesus
Jesus is at the heart of the Christian faith. More than a teacher or historical figure, Jesus is the one in whom we encounter the fullness of God’s love, truth, and life. To follow Jesus is to be drawn into relationship, to be transformed from the inside out, and to discover what it means to live as God intends.
At St Matthias, everything we do flows from this centre. Our practices, our community, and our rhythms of life are not ends in themselves, they are ways of opening our lives to Jesus, learning to recognise Jesus’ voice, and responding in trust, joy and obedience.
We believe that Jesus is not distant or abstract, but present and active. Through Scripture, prayer, community, and the work of the Spirit, we are invited to know Jesus personally and to take part in the life Jesus is bringing to the world.
Whether you are exploring faith for the first time, returning after a long time away, or seeking to go deeper, this is an invitation to encounter Jesus afresh.

Talks
This five-part series explores the Gospel of Mark and its compelling portrait of Jesus Christ. Written for a vulnerable early church living under the shadow of the Roman Empire, Mark’s Gospel presents Jesus as a different kind of king, one whose authority, power, and kingdom subvert expectations and invite a radically different way of life.
Talk 1: Jesus and authority (Mark 1–2)
Exploring Jesus’ authority over sickness, evil, and nature, and the announcement of the good news of the Kingdom of God.
Talk 2: The Kingdom of God (Mark 4)
A vision of the kingdom as seed and soil, inviting us to consider where our allegiance lies and how God’s kingdom grows in our lives.
Talk 3: Who do you say I am? (Mark 8:27–30)
A focus on discipleship through Peter’s declaration, exploring faith, sacrifice, and the call to follow Jesus in a way shaped by humility and self-giving.
Talk 4: The crucified king (Mark 14–15)
Unpacking the events leading to the cross and the meaning of Jesus’ death within the purposes of God’s kingdom.
